Touch Golf's Neuro Foundations

In our Touch Golf program, we have adopted a neuroscience-based learning model. Regarding motor skill learning, we know the human brain is endowed with several unique capacities.

At one time, science believed the brain was hardwired and unchanging; now we know it is softwired and constantly adapting. Whenever someone experiences something new or intends to do something different, a brain change occurs. More recently, neuroscience research has shown that plasticity (change) is possible for everyone throughout their entire lifetime.

Learning is all about brain change—plasticity. In our program, we have designed a suite of swing exercises that elevate a golfer's proprioception (Body Sense). When you think about it, the only physical connection a golfer has with the club is through their hands. We begin by creating a hand intention. This signal prompts the brain to coordinate the actions of the rest of the body. Practicing with our program will enhance the golfer’s touch between the hands and the club, as well as the connection between the brain and the hands. As a result, learning occurs at a rapid and sustainable pace.

Our goal is for our students to become one with the club, just as a carpenter is with their hammer or a painter with their brush. Our suite of swing exercises taps into the brain’s extraordinary capacities. Ultimately, our goal is for our students to become their own best coach.
